Fall Decor: Things You Can Do With a Mason Jar

Now that we can say it is officially fall, we can spice up the house with autumn decor without any hesitation. If you love to decorate as much as we do, then here are a few things that you can do around your house to ring in the season. In this blog, we're focusing on mason jar crafts and here are two worth trying:

Paint Leaf Jars

Supplies

  • Mason Jar
  • Glass paint
  • Disposable paper
  • Paintbrush
  • Ribbon
  • Candle (optional)

Steps

  1. First, place your disposable paper on your work surface to prevent any paint marks.
  2. Then place your jar either on its side or upright and start painting leaves on the outside of the jar.
  3. Be sure to use paint made specifically for glassware, that way it goes on smoothly and stays on the jar.
  4. Wait 3 to 4 hours or until all the paint is dry. If you use thicker coats of paint, you may need to wait longer.
  5. Once the paint is completely dry, tie a red, yellow or other fall-colored ribbon around the rim.
Your fall jar is now complete! You can fill it with potpourri or sunflowers and use it as a dining room table centerpiece. Or you can drop a candle into it and use it as a lantern.

Candle Leaf Jars

Supplies

  • Mason Jar
  • Leaves (Fake or Real)
  • Tea candle
  • Ribbon

Steps

  1. Grab some colorful leaves from your yard or purchase some fake fall leaves from a local crafts store and fill a Mason Jar about 3/4 full with them.
  2. Then place a tea candle that is inside a glass holder into the jar, with the wick up.
  3. Make sure that the candle is big enough to fit into the opening of the jar but does not fall through. If it is too small and not in a glass candle holder, it could be a fire hazard.
  4. As a last touch, tie a colorful ribbon or piece of string around the rim of the jar.
You can use real leaves, but you'll have to frequently change them because they wither and turn brown quickly. Fake leaves will require less maintenance. Once you are finished with your jars, you can place them on your living room mantle or kitchen table for some fall lighting!
