Put together the perfect guest room

What are the components of a perfect guest room? Fresh linens, a comfy mattress, a reading chair, and a chest of drawers, just to name a few...and we’ve got them all!

Here's what the interior decorating experts at About.com say you should have:

The Best Bed Your Money Can Buy

Don't give your guest the oldest, most saggy mattress you have! Give them something they'll enjoy sleeping on. Our top-selling queen mattress sets will only set you back between $398 and $599. And yes, we've got pillow-tops!

Bedding Upgrades

Beyond clean bedding, think about adding wonderful bed linens and comfort items often supplied by fine B&B's: a featherbed mattress topper, a choice of pillows, a cozy comforter, extra blankets, and freshly ironed pillowcases.

Fresh Linens

Always have an extra set of bed linens available for your guests. Accidents DO happen! Or you may have one of those wonderful guests who insists on changing the sheets when they leave. Let them do it! And thank them profusely!

A Place to Set Down a Suitcase

Clear a space to put a luggage rack or a small table or bench to set down a suitcase. No one likes to have to stoop over to the floor to pull out a clean pair of socks. Even a chair is better than nothing!

A Comfy Place to Sit

Some people absolutely do not sit on a bed! And your guests shouldn't have to. Place an upholstered armchair or side chair in the room with a table and lamp close by.

Good Lighting

It always amazes me when I walk into an otherwise nice hotel room and there's no light to read by! It's always nice to have a lamp near the bed, so your guest won't have to stumble around in the dark, just to turn a light on. If nothing else, provide a good reading light near a chair or over the bed. Another fixture or lamp near the desk would be great. A small night light is helpful and a lighted magnifying make-up mirror is a real luxury!

Drawer Space

If you have an extra chest of drawers, how perfect! But at least clear out one or two drawers for small items. Both you and your guest will feel better with odds and ends out of sight.

Great ways to decorate a canopy bed

Canopy beds…they never really go out of style! We like them so much we carry 2 different styles: The emperor set and the black metal canopy set.

We love both these beds for different reasons. The emperor bed, well…just look at it! It’s a big, bad, beautiful bed. We’ve heard of customers draping silky cloth from the metal cross bar canopy, threading white Christmas lights around the bars, even putting candles on top of the posts (we recommend electric tea lights!) It’s a beautiful bed already, but there are lots of ways you can make it “yours.”

The black metal canopy bed is great too, just with a more minimalist design. It’s got clean lines and a modern feel with a touch of vintage charm. The canopy bars around the frame top allow for some serious creativity. We’ve heard of folks draping fabric over the bars, hanging streamers from each post...and those mini Chinese lantern lights would make a great touch for a kid’s room!

Want even more decorating options? Here are some of our favorite ideas from Pinterest:  http://pinterest.com/stacycurran/bed-canopy/

The best part about these ideas is that most of them don’t require a “real” canopy bed to work. A regular bed will do. The sky’s the limit!
