3 Ways to Brighten Your Home

After a cold and long winter we can't wait to clean and brighten up our homes for the warm spring weather. Here are 3 ways that you can use to easily brighten your home:

1. Let the natural light in.
One of the easiest ways to brighten up your home for spring is to open the curtains and let in the sunshine.

2. Add some spring flowers
Putting a flower vase or centerpiece on your dinette set is a great and inexpensive way to bring a little bit of spring indoors.

3. Bright Colors
You definitely know it's spring when the pastel colors start popping up. Make your home pop for spring by adding bright color by updating with new paint, furniture, or home decor.

3 Home Decor Tricks to Open Up Small Spaces

Living in a small space doesn't have to feel cluttered and crowded.  There are simple tricks like adding bright colors and maximizing storage to make a small space feel big and welcoming. Here are our top 3:

Add Color
You can do this with paint, furniture, or a centerpiece rug.  Brighter colors generally make a space look bigger than dull, darker colors.

Shelf Organization
Organizing your rooms with hanging wall shelves or bookshelves allows for more floor space.

Storage Furniture
Storage items would clutter your home and even make it look unsightly.  A piece of furniture that can double as a storage compartment is both practical for function and camouflage, making it a more visually appealing storage option.

How to Celebrate St. Patrick's Day By "Greening" Your Home

© Copyright Dr Julian Paren, licensed for reuse
St. Patrick's Day may be on Monday, but the celebrations are already underway! You can go green in more than one way with these home tips:
Go green in florals: Sometimes the best greenery is simply that – greenery. Try filling vases with fresh leaves and branches. Or go with green flowers like that favorite and oh so apropos example: lanky stems of bells of Ireland.
Paint a room green: Green has come a long way from the days when avocado appliances were all the rage. There’s a whole palette of greens available now that feel soothing to vibrant. Choose mint, celery and sage for a calming effect, or rock a room in trendy lime or Chartreuse.
Go green in the kitchen: A salad doesn’t have to be the only green thing in the kitchen. Try painting your cabinets green. It’s calming and will give the space a fresh, vibrant feel. Try shades like Fresh Cut Grass or Sherwood Green by Benjamin Moore ( benjaminmoore.com).

3 Tips for Spring Cleaning

Spring may not be here just yet, but that doesn't mean we can't count down the days until then!  While you're waiting for the warm weather to arrive you can prep your house for spring cleaning with these tips:

Create Incremental Goals
Set practical goals and don't try to do everything all in one day.  You can separate tasks by room or levels of your house.  However you decide to segment the spring cleaning, make sure that you have a plan before diving into the mess.

Have a Checklist
Spring cleaning could have you facing some tough messes, so don't go in unprepared.  Form a checklist of cleaning and other supplies that you may need.  Here is a starter checklist for you that you can customize for your own home:
Cleaners:

  • Stainless Steel
  • Glass
  • Wood
  • Multi-surface & Disinfectant
Supplies:
  • Vaccuum
  • Carpet Cleaner
  • Broom
  • Mop
  • Bucket
  • Paper Towels
  • Garbage Bags

Organization is Key
One way to make cleaning easier for next spring and even all year round is by setting up systems of organization.  If things have a specific place to be neatly stored, then they are less likely to create a cluttered mess. Setting up a recurring basic cleaning routine will also help make spring cleaning less of a chore.
